Here are a few notes about Fennel from our farmer, Zaid:
Fennel is a superfood in terms of phytonutrients and tastes good too. It has a mild licorice flavor with a high fiber content. It is used in traditional medicines. The fronds can be eaten as well. The balance can be used in stock. We eat raw as a side with our food. It is heart healthy and can lower blood pressure. High in potassium and selenium.

Registrations Open for 2019 Summer Season

We are now accepting orders for fruit shares and other products. See below for details. All registrations must be received by 5/12/19.

Our second registration event will be held on April 24th from 6-8pm. If you cannot attend, we are accepting registrations online and by mail any time before 5/12/19.

Registration Sessions will be held in the Parish Hall at Church of the Redeemer (30-14 Crescent Street, Astoria, NY 11102-3249). Please use the second entrance (single red door with peephole) on the side of the church; when inside, turn left. Please do not pass through the church sanctuary unless you are attending the service.

Membership Details:

Vegetable shares are now available for $425
Weekly Fruit shares (20 week) are now available for $240
Bi-Weekly Fruit shares (10 week) are now available for $120
Additional Products are now available at a range of prices


All vegetable share prices include a $25 admin fee. This year’s share includes approximately 22 weeks of fresh, organic vegetables straight from Norwich Meadows Farm, NY, with options for fruit shares and add-ons such as organic dairy, free-range chicken and eggs, grass-fed beef and more.

Our distribution site is located on Crescent Street near 30th Avenue. Pick-up times are from 5:30 to 8 PM on Wednesdays starting in June and ending in November.

Harvest Astoria is a volunteer-run organization. We cannot function without gracious time commitments from each of our share-members. Each share is required to contribute a minimum 6 hours of volunteering at our distribution site, on Wednesday mornings or evenings.

We are allowing all members to register online or by mail this year. Please complete and return the member registration form listed below. Include payment with your completed registration form or pay online (additional fee applies).

Many of us are familiar with powdered turmeric, but this might be your first introduction to fresh turmeric. This is a great introduction to the rhizome. Pro tip: turmeric is highly pigmented (it has been used a dye for centuries), so be careful not to stain your kitchen while cooking.
